Actor Chris Klein, who was born in Hinsdale and is best known for his role as Chris "Oz" Ostreicher in "American Pie," decided to voluntarily extend his stay in an alcohol abuse treatment center, according to People Magazine.
He voluntarily checked into rehab following his second DUI arrest earlier this summer, according to an earlier People article, in which it was speculated that he might face jail time for the offense. A Chicago DUI lawyer could better compare and contrast DUI laws in Illinois and in California, where the actor was arrested.
His representative, Jaime Primak, offered the following statement to the celebrity lifestyles magazine:
"After recent events, Chris was forced to take a clear look at a problem he has been trying to deal with himself for years. He understands now that he can not beat this disease alone."
Actor Chris Klein was arrested in mid-June in Los Angeles on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol after an officer saw him weaving on the Hollywood Freeway. His blood-alcohol concentration was nearly three times the legal limit, according to the California Highway Patrol's report.
A mandatory court appearance has been scheduled for Aug. 23.
He completed 30 days of treatment at the Cirque Lodge in Utah and will spend an unspecified amount of additional time at the center. Jaime Primak did not indicate how long the 31-year-old actor plans to stay in rehab but offered an updated statement:
"He is doing fantastic and is optimistic about his future. He thanks everyone for their continued support."
Substance abuse treatment facilities are one viable option for individuals who struggle with alcohol abuse and often can help defendants receive a more favorable DUI-related sentence. Ask your Chicago DUI attorney for more information.
