The DUI charge against 37-year-old Rogue Dooley may be the least of his worries, as the Chicago Sun-Times reported. The Gary, Indiana man allegedly dragged a Chicago Police bicycle officer 30 feet after striking the cop with his pickup truck last Saturday night.
He now faces charges of aggravated battery to a police officer, aggravated fleeing police, misdemeanor reckless driving, driving without a license, failure to obey a police order, operating a motor vehicle without insurance and having alcohol in the car, in addition to the DUI charge.
It may take more than your average Chicago DUI lawyer to defend against those charges.
Rogue Dooley allegedly made an illegal U-turn in traffic with his 1997 ford F-150 pickup truck and was stopped by the bicycle officer. He then allegedly pulled away when the officer asked for his identification, dragging him down the street with him. Either the officer or his bike (the report wasn't clear) became tangled in the man's seatbelt as he was trying to flee.
Police officials said he stopped about 30 feet from the original traffic stop only after heavy traffic blocked his path.
Paramedics arrived on the scene and treated the officer, who was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in "good to fair condition," according to Fire Media Affairs spokesman Richard Rosado. The officer was checked out of the hospital soon after.
Rogue Dooley underwent a breathalyzer test but the results were not released to the media.
The article did not indicate a possible sentence for Rogue Dooley, should he be found guilty of battery or any combination of the other charges against him. But it's likely he'll be taking up residence in Illinois if there are no surprises.
An experienced Illinois DUI lawyer can't undo past mistakes but can help you get the best possible outcome if you're involved in a messy DUI case.
