According to police, 31-year-old Rosa M. Gutierrez may need more than just a Chicago DUI attorney to defend against multiple charges arising from a high-speed chase, as reported by the Chicago Tribune.
Police told reporters they were forced to use a Taser to subdue Ms. Gutierrez, who allegedly struck an officer with her car after fleeing from police. Both Ms. Gutierrez and the hit officer were treated at local hospitals and released.
Mr. Gutierrez was then taken into police custody, but it's not clear from the article whether or not she was released on bail.
Police told reporters they responded to a call that gunshots were fired shortly after midnight and pursued the car belonging to Ms. Gutierrez, which reportedly matched the description. She allegedly failed to cooperate by fleeing from police and speeding through the city and "sometimes going the wrong way on one-way streets," according to Police News Affairs Officer Veejay Zala, who was quoted in the article.
She eventually crashed into a garage on West Marquette Road. She then allegedly switched the car into reverse and struck a responding officer. This prompted another officer to discharge his gun at Ms. Gutierrez. No one was hit by the round, the article stated.
Ms. Gutierrez then exited her car and continued her attempt to resist officers. She was finally arrested with the aid of a Taser stun gun, according to police interviewed by the Tribune. No one was reported to be seriously injured from the incident.
The list of charges against Ms. Gutierrez includes felony aggravated battery to a police officer, felony possession of a controlled substance and felony aggravated fleeing involving bodily injury. She also was charged with misdemeanor DUI and misdemeanor resisting and obstructing a peace officer.
She also faces a long list of traffic citations, including driving without insurance and driving on a suspended license.
