A Springfield man, 41-year-old Troy D. Bush was taken to Sangamon County Jail following an incident that led to charges of drunk driving (State Journal-Register).
Police say Bush fled from them and then crashed into a pair of trees last week at about 12:50 a.m., a popular time of night/morning for DUI arrests. Although it's from downstate, the alleged details of this case are quite entertaining.
A Grandview officer allegedly spotted a 1983 Ford car doing "cookies" (I have no idea what that means, but perhaps it's the same as doing "donuts") in the middle of the street. The officer then flashed on his lights but the driver allegedly sped away and initiated a chase.
He didn't get too far, according to police, and struck two trees after cruising through a small parking lot.
But a very determined Bush then got out of his car and ran, police say, leaving behind his 17-year-old daughter. When questioned by police, she gave them Bush's name and a description.
She certainly wasn't doing her dad any favors:
They asked her why he ran, and she responded maybe because he'd consumed a half a case of beer.
Not sure if her statement can be used in court or if it's just hearsay, but an Illinois DUI attorney could probably answer that question.
The cops finally caught up with Bush and claim they could smell alcohol on his breath. Upon running a computer check, they learned that he not only had a revoked driver's license but also was on parole from state prison.
Maybe the "cookies" in the middle of the street, alleged by the police, was not such a good idea after all.
